Over the last few weeks we’ve had quite a lot happen with planning this year’s Social Storm global hackathon. We now have 13 universities signed up from across 3 countries, and already 100 participants have signed up to a packed and intensive 24-hours over 20-21 November 2015.
We have been busy developing the three social challenges the teams will be tackling with sustainable and financially viable solutions. These challenges cover a number of areas including environment, technology and gender equality.
Last week also saw the first two of our online training sessions by Pivomo, delivered to our participating universities and mentors. These sessions cover how we plan to integrate Dynamiqe; a psychometric tool for entrepreneurs into the hackathon experience and the assessment of teams.
Hackathons are time intensive and require a large amount of attention on the development of minimal viable products and little on the team itself. Many hackathons do not emphasise the opportunities participants have to learn more about themselves, and reflect on their role within teams. Both Pivomo and Social Storm are keen to ensure that every participant finishes the 24 hours having developed greater self-awareness and understanding of the many roles needed in an entrepreneur’s journey.
All participants will be taking Dynamiqe before and during the hackathon, and we will be using the results to put together teams. The teams comprise of students from across multiple universities. With their business solution to a social challenge, each team will also submit a Foundation Statement describing their development into a stronger team, their vision and also the range of future roles needed to take their idea forward.
In the run up to the event on the 20th-21st November we will be busy finalising all our workshops, mentor team, judges and partner universities. If you want to get involved either as a university, mentor or judge please get in contact with us at email@example.com. To find out more about Pivomo visit their website www.pivomo.com
We hope you are all as excited as we are for this year’s Social Storm!

Social Storm is proud to announce a new partnership with Pivomo, a UK start up providing Dynamique; a powerful research-based psychometric tool for entrepreneurs.
For Social Storm 2015 participants, Pivomo will be providing a range of value adding services that enable participants to get a much richer learning experience, including:
Pivomo Founder and CEO, Andrew Atter says:” At Pivomo, we’re just passionate about supporting early phase entrepreneurship so this fits right in line with our core mission. We want to encourage universities to get their entrepreneurs out of classrooms and into real-time learning activities”.
Social Storm’s co-founder Helen Ots says that “Enabling participants to develop greater self-awareness is an important part of the educational experience of a Social Storm event. Developing an understanding of their own individual work style and mind set will help them to identify their ideal team members, and resolve any potential conflicts within the team. I’m looking forward to working with the team at Pivomo to enhance each participant’s personal development, and hopefully see some amazing solutions coming from great teams!”
Social Storm 2015 will be taking place over 20-21 November, connecting over 15 universities, 200+ participants and a network of mentors to tackle a global social issue. Pivomo’s Dynamiqe will play a pivotal role in helping participants to analyse their individual mind set, relationships and work-style, ultimately building a stronger team.
